2016 Lanarkshire Pub of the Year

Presentation to Gary Watkins of the Crown Inn in Biggar, our Lanarkshire Pub of the Year for 2016

Twelve Glasgow CAMRA members (and a dog) made the pleasant but long trip to Biggar on Saturday 23 July to present the Crown Inn with their 2016 Lanarkshire Pub of the Year award. We were greeted by a very happy owner, Gary Watkins, three excellent real ales on tap and the smell of a lovely curry being cooked up for us. Jonathan Kemp presented Gary with the award in recognition for the dedication shown to real ale by all of the staff. Gary told the gathered crowd that he was planning to increase the number of real ales available to six (up from one when he first took over) next year. There is also a Biggar Beer Festival hosted by the pub each October that he reminded members to look out for. We shall be back!
