Our Argyll Pub of the Year for 2015, the Barn, is by a holiday chalet site a few miles south of Oban. With no public transport links, the solution of how to present our award certificate was to hire a bus from Glasgow. This proved very popular and 27 branch members joined the trip, which also had stops at the Argyll in Lochgilphead, the Kilmartin Hotel, the Corryvreckan in Oban, the Oyster Inn in Connel and the Bridge of Orchy Hotel.
The Barn used to be the chalet bar and restaurant, but the two businesses separated several years ago and now many of the Barn's customers do not stay in the chalets. The Barn started selling real ale in the early part of the century and it soon built a reputation for its quality. The Argyll Pub of the Year award was as much for the welcome we receive whenever we visit as for the excellent beers.
The day of the award was no exception as the mother and son team of Mary and Donny Mcleod gave us sandwitches and served Fin Ales' Rune and Superior IPA, both in excellent condition.
Branch Contact Jonathan Kemp (right in the photo) presented Donnie with the award certificate and explained how refereshing it was to see the event so well supported with a wide cross-section of our membership.
